How to get your first 100 customers

For many of us, what we enjoy most about being an entrepreneur is exploring our creativity. Having the freedom to plan, design and build something new that has the potential to impact the world. That's why so many of us got into entrepreneurship in the first place.

But because of this, it's easy to forget the most important thing in a successful life as an entrepreneur: attracting customers.

One of the biggest challenges you will face as a business owner is acquiring your first 100 customers. Those first customers are critical to the success of your business. They form the foundation of your business, provide the roadmap for future growth, and help validate your product or service. They are also the hardest to get.

In Myselflast conversation with Stacy Tuschi, we've talked a lot about the entrepreneurial journey, getting started, and growing as you grow. One of my favorite takeaways from the conversation was his idea to get his first customers through the door (or website).

In this article, we'll break down that idea and dive into strategies for getting your first 100 customers, tips for getting the most out of those first relationships, and how to scale beyond that.

Let's get into it!

way of thinking

I know, another mindset talk. It may seem very cliché, but the right attitude is really the first key to success here.

If you've ever started a business or sold a product or service, there's a good chance you had trouble selling at first. This is a natural obstacle.almost all of us go through it, and it's not a bad thing, it actually shows that you're a considerate person.

Most likely, you didn't want to feel like you were pressuring someone else to buy what you're selling, or that you didn't feel "good enough" to perform the service, so you avoided it altogether.

But let's face it, no matter how good your product or service is, if you can't market and sell it effectively, your business won't get very far.

There are some important perspective shifts you need to make to overcome that fear and put yourself in the right place so that you can successfully acquire your first customers.

value driven

The key to overcoming these fears is to shift your focus from selling to creating value.

Instead of thinking about how you are going to make a sale, think about how your product or service can solve a problem or improve the lives of your customers. Keep in mind that having a product that can help your customer but doesn't deliver is actually doing them a disservice.

This shift in mindset can make the sales process feel less daunting and more like a true exchange of value.

Preparation

Another valuable step is to find out more about the subject.

LearnVarious marketing strategies and techniques.and experiment with different methods to find what works best for your business. And don't be afraid to seek advice and mentoring from more experienced business people.

Be patient

Finally, you need to remember that building a business takes time and effort, and there will be bumps along the way. But with a growth mindset, an openness to learn from your mistakes, and patience, you can overcome any obstacle and reach your goal of landing your first 100 clients.

Model

Once you are in the right place, the next step is to engage your customers.comes from modeling.

Find a business, product or service similar to yours that is already successful. Use this as a template.

You won't literally copy everything they do, but you will learn the general principles they use, who they target, and how they do it to help you grow your business.

market research

This company has likely already done much of the heavy lifting for you when it comes to market research. They know who their ideal customer is, where that ideal customer is located, and they know the best way to market to that customer.

Learn from these ideas and use them as a model in building your marketing strategy.

positioning

See how this successful company is positioning its product or service. How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors? What value proposition do they offer?

Use this information to develop a unique positioning for your own business that sets you apart in the marketplace.

make your product great

Once you have a solid understanding of the market and your target audience, the next step is to make sure your product or service is top-notch.

No matter how well you market or sell your product, if you don't meet your customers' needs and expectations, you won't be able to keep them. Use this company as an example of how they make their product stand out. Then make your product stand out in the same way.

Marketing

Now that you have the plan to follow, you need to focus on the next step, marketing. Without effective marketing, reaching your target audience and building awareness of your product or service can be next to impossible.

When it comes to marketing, understanding your ideal customer is crucial. Who are you? What are your pain points? What motivates them to buy?

Once you have a clear understanding of your ideal customer, you can customize your marketing messages and channels to reach them most effectively.

Here are some tips for marketing to your ideal customers:

  • Define your unique selling proposition:What differentiates your product or service from the competition? By identifying your USP, you can create a unique message that truly resonates with your target audience.
  • Use multiple channels:Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Use a variety of channels to reach your target audience, including social media, email marketing, content marketing, and online advertising.
  • Personalize your messages:Personalization can help you create a more effective message and increase engagement with your audience. Use the customer data you can find to create targeted messages that speak to their specific interests and needs.
  • test and optimize: Try different marketing strategies and tactics and track the results. Use this data to optimize your marketing efforts and improve ROI.
  • Use word of mouth:Encourage satisfied customers to share their positive experiences with their friends and family. This can be an effective tool to attract new customers.

Once you've mastered the basics of marketing, there are some great advanced tipsStacy mentioned in our conversationthat are worth exploring in more detail in this article.

marketing relacional

Relationship marketing is one of the secret keys to not only getting your first 100 customers, but expanding to 1,000, 10,000, and beyond.

This type of marketing is all about leveraging other people's social reach to help you reach your target audience. There are two main ways to do this.

Mutual exchange:Here's someone who is at a similar stage in their journey where you and you are collaborating on some form of content creation (podcast, IG Live, YouTube video). This allows both of you to reach each other's audiences and expand your reach.

This is usually done with two people who have similar audiences, but it's not necessary and is sometimes just as effective when sharing different audiences.

Marketing de influencers:Here you will find someone who is ahead of you in their journey and has a larger audience. You can offer them some kind of compensation (money, free products) to promote your business.

This tends to produce a great result as there are still testimonials.one of the most important marketing materials.

Spending more money is not always the answer

Now we have to get to one of the most important points of this entire article, and that is something that is a huge hurdle for many aspiring entrepreneurs.

It's easy to believe that when sales are low, more money is spent on advertising and marketing to solve all your problems, but alas! It's not that easy.

If your message, offer, or product isn't up to snuff, increasing your marketing budget won't solve the problem. In fact, you can make things worse by reinforcing a weak message and wasting valuable resources.

Before you start spending money on advertising and marketing, you need to make sure your message, offer, and product are strong. This means doing market research, identifying your unique selling proposition, and testing your message and offer with potential customers.

Once you have a solid foundation, you can focus on developing an effective marketing strategy. This includes identifying the right channels to reach your target audience, personalizing your messages, and testing and optimizing your marketing efforts.

It's also important to remember that not all marketing efforts are created equal. Some channels may be more effective than others in reaching your target audience. So make sure you're strategic about where you allocate your marketing budget.

Keep your customers

Getting your first 100 customers is a huge milestone for any business, but it's not the end of the journey (if it were that easy).

Once you've landed your first 100 customers, it's crucial to make the most of those early relationships. One way to achieve this is with excellent customer service, which can help turn new customers into repeat customers.

In addition, you should also think about how you can upsell and cross-sell to your existing customers as it can help generate additional revenue for your business.

It is important that these customers keep coming back.Retention is just as important as acquisition, if not more. Repeat customers are also more likely to spend more, refer their friends and family, and leave positive reviews.

Here are some tips to keep your first 100 customers coming back:

  • Provide excellent customer service:Make sure your customers are happy with their purchase and the service they received. Respond to complaints as quickly as possible and always try to do everything you can to satisfy them.
  • To build a relationship:Get to know your customers and find out what they like and don't like. Send them personalized messages and offers. Show them that you care about their experience and their business.
  • Give more than you take:Offer your customers added value with free content, exclusive offers or a loyalty program. This gives them a reason to come back and do business with you again.
  • Keep getting better:Constantly collect feedback from your customers and make improvements to your product or service. This will keep you one step ahead of the competition and ensure that your product remains relevant and in demand.
  • Being an excellent communicator:Keep your customers updated on new products and upcoming promotions via email, social networks or SMS. This will keep your business top of mind and remind them to come back and buy from you.

To involve

Landing your first 100 clients as an entrepreneur can be a challenging task, but it is not impossible, even if it seems so at times.

If you get the right mindset first and then find a successful modeling business, you are already on the right track. After that, put your marketing skills to good use and provide great customer service, and you can lay a solid foundation for future growth and success.

Remember, getting your first 100 customers should be an ongoing and fun process. It doesn't happen overnight, and there will be bumps along the way.
